'Freedom of Choice'

Yuva fellows participated in Development Dialogue on the topic Reservation in Education system. Fellows began the discussion by stating Reservation is meant to achieve the promise of equality enshrined in the constitution. The main objective of the reservation system in India is to improve the social and educational status of underprivileged communities and thus improve their lives. Fellows also added that Reservation in Education is a violation of the Basic Right of a person which is 'Freedom of Choice' . It forces a deserving student to opt for an potion which is not his prior choice, only due to the Reservations in Educational Institutions for backward communities. Further added that Reservation, rather than targeting the problem has become a tool for vote-bank politics. Instead of breaking the barriers of castes, it widens the gap.

Fellows concluded by analyzing the current situation and understood the importance of reservation in Education.
